honestly it was just a silly idea more than anything but that might be a fun forum game if nothing else

Is anyone else getting emails for forum alerts despite the box being unchecked in account preferences/details?

It can be set per thread and that can override that setting, check the specific threads you're getting emails for and turn it off there (watch/unwatch option)

Guess I'll just unwatch everything. Will that effect alerts within the site itself? I don't mind that, I just don't want forum post notification emails flooding my inbox

Click the watch/unwatch button at the top of a thread
Unwatch any threads you're getting emails from, then try to watch them again and you get this popup


If this is set to "receive email notifications" then yes, it overrides your account setting

to clarify: the account setting is what that option defaults to when you post in a thread, changing it does not retroactively change it on threads you already posted in; and the sitewide default originally was for that setting to default to receiving emails, so earlier users of the forum will have emails defaulted to on for a lot of these threads.

Gotcha so I have to manual reset all the threads, I'm watching.

I got tired of the emails so I just clicked the unsubscribe link on the notification email I received and I haven't gotten an email since.
