Yeah it's the craziest person in the world going out of their way to make incredibly boring cardboard cut-out models using promotional material from the upcoming Grinch movie because he's thinking 47 steps ahead and knows that both Bandai-Namco and Universal studios contract the same obscure French marketing company. To this end, he then got himself an office, printed out the name of an employee of said company, and haphazardly half blurred out the name because, once again, he's some kind of super genius beyond the mental capacities of mortal man and he knew that the internet's crack team of cybersleuths would find his red-herring name in seconds.

This absolute Einstein of social engineering also happens to moonlight as an expert artist and after presumably spending hours carefully cutting and pasting characters from the Smash poster, he then went out of his way to produce 7 more drawings of his own with obscure elements like vines for Isaac that hardly anyone would be able to make out, and then, for the fun of it, he saw to making a completely unique drawing of the blank version of Battlefield just because he could. He made sure that this fake roster of his perfectly mirrored one posted on 4chan last month by someone whose first language clearly isn't English because he knew that people would immediately make the connection to the French marketing company that he is pretending produced this image. The fact that 5 new characters lines up with the 5 missing stages from Corocoro was all part of his master plan. He also made sure this coincided with Nintendo renewing relevant trademarks.

The lengths you have to go to believe that this is all an incredibly elaborate leak would make this man one of the most intelligent people to ever walk the Earth. Apparently he knew where people would look at every turn, making him at the minimum more competent than the entire government of Saudi Arabia when it comes to fakery.

I suggest you think about which outcome is the most likely here

I think there are a good amount of first party picks left, especially if they open themselves up to not *just* going for the hot new thing.

But even if you're looking at just the Switch era and evergreen stuff, you still have the likes of Waluigi, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, one of the Champions, Sidon, Raven Beak, Bandana Dee, Magolor, any of the Scarlet and Violet Pokémon like Ogerpon or Tinkaton or Gholdengo, Lyn, Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, Oatchi, Tom Nook, K.K. Slider, Mio, Noah, Marina, Pearl, Callie, Marie, Spring Man, Twintelle, Ayumi Tachibana, Dr. Lobe, Ashley Robins, Snip and Clip, Officer Howard, and Ring Fit Trainee.

You could pretty easily craft a newcomer roster with some of those. Throw in a token retro character like Takamaru or Mach Rider or Sukapon, and then maybe an additional throwback fan favorite a la K. Rool like Isaac or Midna, and you're golden as far as first parties go imo.

Ayumi Tachibana has supplanted Style Savvy as my most-wanted first party. It's so cool that we have a new FDC game to draw from.

I largely just need to see the game have online that doesn't suck ass between well implemented rollback, proper lobbies and a way to actually play the type of matches you want instead of hoping you get a 1v1 with no items on a reasonable stage instead of a free for all item fest on fucking Pac-Land.

Beyond that please rework some characters and freshen everyone up with a back special ala Terry.

Seconding that I'd like to see Terry come back, he's still my main. He's a much safer character probably, but I also really hope Pac-Man stays around and brings even more weird retro Namco stuff.

As far as newcomers go, a lot of the Ninty characters I'd want (Saki, Ray, Sablé Prince, etc) are very old and niche, so at this point I just hope they dive into more cool classic Japanese shit for third-parties. Give me Arle, Bomberman, Chun-Li, Sakura, Resident Evil, Sol, Taito representation, Akira, Shiori, arcade rhythm characters from Taiko or Bemani, I could go on

yeah honestly "smash with good online, on a console with an ethernet cable port, and ok lobbies" would be worth cutting 70% of the roster at this point lmao. Cant believe switch didnt have a damn ethernet port. . .

this is (part of) why im excited for ROA2 lol. (god i cant wait for roa2)
