For all your general fighting game discussion needs for tournaments, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Under Night, Guilty Gear, Marvel vs Capcom, SNK and all other kinds of FGs.

Practice them combos.

helllllllllll yeah fighting games

best genre ever. I can watch big tournies alllll day for like 8 games i don't play. Been getting back into the genre recently now that i have a working controller (FINALLY). My FFXIV retirement is coming to an end

(also lol at no smash in the OP)

Ok gotta start this off strong. Who do we think is going to be in Smash 6?

I gotta get back into watching Fighting Game matches and tournaments. Whenever I catch then I am so enthralled but unfortunately I have never gotten the chance to actually go out and seek them.

Fighting Games chat is the best thread on the Discord tee bee haitch

Anyway today I want to complain that Guilty Gear XXACR is available on the Switch and PC but inexplicably not the PS4/5 at all. What gives?? The PS3 was the first place AC+ was ported with online play! ArcSys is slacking. I just want to quadruple-dip.

So I have a confession to make:

Whether it's my old eyes or lack of confidence, I haven't played much of any fighting game post-SFV in its second season. SF6 is basically everything I ever wanted, but I've struggled to commit and learn the game because I have this constant feeling in the back of my head that I'm just bad at fighting games now. It sucks.

Recommendations on how to get out of it and enjoy SF6/MK1/maybe Guilty Gear again?

You just gotta keep at it and push through the feeling really. Spend time in training mode, practice combo trials and go online. It's best if you know people of a similar level or can help you (re)learn stuff. Learning fundamentals is more important than combos. Whenever the next Sajam Slam rolls around I'd watch it because that's people learning a fighting game with coaching and then competing against others.

I feel like I'm ass at basically every FG I touch but I can kinda just push past it sometimes but it's not really a genre you can play if your mind isn't in a good enough place. If nothing else, just play casually with friends, the most fun I've had is playing Centralfiction and Under Night with an old friend and BBTAG and Modded Marvel with Hina.

Actually, mentioning the Sajam Slam gives me an idea but I have a lot of doubts about the viability of it between general interest, having people who can kinda teach some stuff, game variety which then means needing people who can teach and stream multiple games as well as asking people to buy multiple games and the inherent expensive aspect of fighting games plus some games requiring parsec which can drag it out a bit and require extra scheduling plus all fighting games have differing levels of QoL.

Would be nice to promote more love for fighting games and show them off and get people into more games y'know? Just a whole lot behind it that makes it really difficult to figure out properly.

For me, it's just spending time with a game either against the CPU or a friend in a low stakes match. Pick a game, any game, that is just...genuinely fun to play and excites you. It can be really fun to pick up a game with a friend you both know nothing about and give it a whirl, learning as you go. Equal playing fields.

Whenever I'm feeling frustration or fatigue or worry that I'm not good I pick up a game I know I love, even if I suck at it, and play a few games. With the MVC collection that is now usually MVC2 but Children of the Atom has been a fun go-to as well. We are lucky that so many games are so easily accessible, including great retro titles. Sometimes you just need to play an old KOF or something.

SSFIV is backwards compatible, maybe I'll pick that up for a bit to get the muscle memory back. Good idea.

SF6 is apparently especially good for people who "feel bad at fighting games" because of World Tour. If you happen to own it already, at least running through that might be the fire you need.

Other than that, my advice i always give out is "it's not about the win, it's about the journey." If you lose one round getting hit with a double perfect, and the next round you lose both rounds, but get a couple hits in, boom, huge improvement. That's a W. Take it, and run. Have a goal, and go for it. progress towards that goal is a win, even if the results screen says otherwise.

That cool combo? that neutral? that anti air %? Just gotta find something to make that fight feel GOOD

I considered actually setting up a huge thing for Garou, of all things, but then realize that my love for Garou (as much as i dont play it) probably far exceeds the average person's interest in learning garou. Lmao

Also as for price, there is always fightcade/dolphin. Have lot's to pick from ther. KOF, SF3, Alpha, Fatal Fury, CVS2, MvC etc etc etc

Or could do a "cheap" game llike skullgirls or MvC3. that second one is popular enough at least lmao

Yeah I dunno then.
Just want to do something that promotes actually learning the games and having fun with others.

This isn't the first time I've said this, but hey, I'll say it again.

Currently in a position where I'm starting to miss the fighting game genre, and want to go back to it, and the thrill of the competition.

I have decided that I'm going to do this through Street Fighter 6. SolCal 6, KOF XV, Guilty Gear Strive were cool and all, but they didn't clicked with me enough to warrant further gameplay on either one of them.

It helps that there's a couple of friends of mine that are playing it too. They were playing it earlier today, in fact.

And I'm just realizing that I haven't seen SF6 on EVO. I think I got like, half way through YouTubing the Top 6, gotta go watch the remaining half on my own free time.
