Fighting Games General Thread

Yeah I dunno then.
Just want to do something that promotes actually learning the games and having fun with others.
So it's not exactly a Sajam Slam type deal, but this is ultimately what the tournaments in game night were about. Most people are also noobs so they'll be learning shit alongside you (or during the tournament because some people including me pick up the game on game day lmao). We first did Skull Girls because it was both on sale and being promoted so we all took the dive. And then we kept pitching fighting games like guilty gear xx and dnf duel whenever they were on sale. Maybe can do another one of those.

I think originally after DNF Duel the plan was modded UMVC3, which is a sick idea and there's a lot to explore there. I'm personally warming up to another tourney after the last one went poorly for me so could help plan it out

Yeah I'm not thinking literally like a Sajam thing god no lmao but more just, people get given time to learn from others who might be more experienced with the games with the aim being that people who are newer/not as into the games competing. It's really just the learning element because having other people who can give you guidance can really help.

I know jack shit about actually playing Tekken and Street Fighter and I know others have been on the grind... primarily with SF lol, so I'd greatly appreciate a learning environment.

I'm still very down to host a modded Marvel 3 tourney whenever the time is right.

Might participate in MvC shenanigans even though I've never been good at 3v3 fighters.

But I think I'm building up enough conviction to hop on SF6. They gave me literally all three of my characters without having to wait for DLC. I have no excuse.

Modded Marvel'll just need parsec on PC because the netcode is ass and because it's modded, most people are gonna be playing relatively unfamiliar characters so you'll be in fine company for the most part unless they have the mods on their pc version.

I wish I could be like "oh yeah im on that SF grind so i can teach!" but if you saw my ability to whiff punish (or lack thereof) it would probably be a pretty hard sell to make me a teacher :phoenixsweat:

I mean, we don't need to get people to where they could conceivably get up to Diamond rank within a week or whatever. Just get them to better understand the game and how it works and what to generally look out for so if they do wanna eventually hit the grind they'll have a better time. It's a long ass road and I'd like to see people be helped along if they're willing to walk it.

It's a shame not every series can have a good of an intro video as KOF
Absolute classic video for getting into the genre .. .as long as you can ignore that hops and rolls and such are fairly KOF specific lol

(I could get behind a KOF98 EXP event SO FAST y'all have no idea lmao)

Okay, so here's what I own and where I own them, just to see if anyone's interested in playing any in the future:

- SF6 (Xbox)
- SFV (Steam)
- MK1 (Xbox)
- MKX because it's better (Xbox)
- KoF15 (Xbox)
- GG Strive (Steam)
- DBFighterZ (Xbox & Steam)
- Samurai Shodown (Xbox)
- Smash Ultimate
- SFxTK (Steam, miss that game)
- That one Persona 4 fighting game (Xbox, lol)

Most of this is workable with crossplay being a thing

Be very hard pressed to get anyone back on SFV though lmao

See this is why fightcade rules
-"free"
-runs on toasters
-countless classic games to choose from
-karnov's is on there

Super Beard Bros. is currently doing a series where they're teaching a complete SF newbie how to play SF6 and there's a ton of great stuff in there just for normally learning any fighting game, great explanation of terminology and stuff. I've managed to take a few of their tips when it comes to things I was already unconsciously doing and now I do it more intentionally and it's helped a lot. Brett is a fantastic teacher. Here's the first episode.

I thought this was on the books anyway, right? just needed to figure out a time and date for it?
maybe I need to enlist assistance so I can suck marginally less at the game by then
:mayaplush:

also reminds me the CPU tournaments were a thing once upon a time, whatever happened to those

We decided the next tourney would be Mugen, and only like 4 people signed up for it.

Okay but you got me to sign up, what more do you need really?
:mayaplush:

I think what you need with this or any of these other tournaments being talked about is just, pick a date and run it. None of this "we'll take signups now and decide later" because they get talked about and then just forgotten if someone isn't taking the initiative to actually get the ball rolling.
that's why sometimes I just do stuff and then you end up with something like this place, for whatever benefit that is :mayaplush:

Fair point, I suppose. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

We should absolutely hold a Karnov's tournament
. . .cant wait to absolutely ruin someone's day by picking Ray and just never letting them play the game with a measly two buttons

Mizoguchi is my boy anyway
