I think a club implies artifice with the object, that it has been fashioned into a weapon rather than using a natural object being used for violence.

Morally, no. It feels wrong to classify anything without a taper or something large strapped to the end as a club. To me, a baseball bat can be a club, but not a cane or a rolled-up newspaper, or in this case, a stick of this particular shape. There are large sticks that can qualify as clubs in my mind, and it's what role-playing games and common depictions of cavemen typically use to represent the lowest tier of club design, but this isn't thick enough.
