There's a lot of potential first-party picks that might not have a lot of hype around them, but would certainly bring something unique to the roster.

yeah honestly "smash with good online, on a console with an ethernet cable port, and ok lobbies" would be worth cutting 70% of the roster at this point lmao. Cant believe switch didnt have a damn ethernet port. . .

this is (part of) why im excited for ROA2 lol. (god i cant wait for roa2)

I don't think I'd go that far but yeah I could live without a decent chunk of the roster, there's a lot of fat and other stuff I'd remove in a heartbeat in service of a better game all around.

One other thing to keep in mind is that, at least typically, the base game newcomer selection is mostly first party, while the DLC newcomers are mostly third party. So given a standard set of like 12-15ish base game newcomers, I think 9-12 or so would be first party characters.

i've been away from smash spec so long, i dont even know who the frontrunners are these days.

Who are the Smash 4 k rool/ridley/isaacs? The Ultimate Inklings?

only two i regularly see mentioned are Dee and takamaru. (and occasional desperate pleas for raven beak)

Just in terms of first parties it's Waluigi, Isaac, Dixie, Octolings and B.Dee if we also consider people being vocal about them.
Then we get into characters that people would largely like to see but aren't really vocal about like Funky or characters like Midna, Impa and Skull Kid who would be up top if Zelda fans could actually agree on which one of them to push.
Then yeah a lot of the latest characters. Alear's the only one that really falters but they're still talked about a lot because Smash fans love to pretend they know anything about FE lmao

For what it's worth, the four characters that did the best on Swamp's first party poll were Dixie Kong, Bandana Dee, Funky Kong, and Waluigi.

Oh also Tom Nook is very popular but because he's from Animal Crossing, no one really talks about him as much. Similar deal to Isabelle where he has a lot of fans/people who would be interested in him but there's not as much noise though some people are trying to make that noise.

It's simple, Morgan. Who I want in is good, has a long and rich history in the world of gaming, and is worthy to stand in what has essentially become the video game hall of fame.

Who YOU want in is bad, is some obscure nobody whose series nobody has ever heard of or played, and would be a waste of a slot.

Honestly I haven't put a lot of thought into a new Smash game if only because there's so little to go off of.

Like, right now everything's so up in the air that besides a character wishlist and a features list, and the desperate hope that Sora returns, I got nothing.

Personally I have a good amount of both first party and third party characters I'd love to see in Smash. With the top ones in each being Isaac for first parties and Master Chief for third parties.

My most wanteds are anything Mortal Kombat and Nightmare Soulcalibur.

Mortal Kombat's only real chance is if Nintendo and Sakurai pick an IP that is specifically pandering to the West due to how it basically doesn't exist in Japan while Soulcalibur relies on Bamco giving a shit about that franchise when Tekken exists which... :Kinzo:

Basically, I'm aware what I want is pipe dreams and I've come to terms with it.
