Next Super Smash Bros General Speculation Thread

I haven't gotten to Ecclesia yet but Shanoa is pretty so she should be in

Yesterday was also the SEGA Saturn's 30th anniversary so I think Akira Yuki and Sakura Shinguji should be in
Actually I've been curious about something. How are the Sakura Wars battle mechs as far as, like, scale? Would it look out of place for them to be Smash fighter sized, or would it be fine?

They're not, like.....super huge or anything. Here's a rough example of what the characters look like inside the mech:

So they're not that big. That said, although it's technically a viable and accurate option, I wouldn't be a huge fan of it, since when you get down to it Sakura Wars is such a character-focused series that it'd be a little lame if the main character was just stuck inside a mech for the entire fight, unable to show any of her personality, mannerisms, etc. It'd feel weird for a series where such a huge part of the appeal lies on the cast of characters. At least IMO.

How would you feel if it was kept solely for the Final Smash?

Assuming that the next smash design document is finalized today, what would you want to see in terms of new stage locations?

I'd honestly like if the more recent games that got stages in Ultimate got like... better ones.

I get that Garreg Mach Monastery is *the* location in Three Houses from both a functional and narrative perspective but it is possibly the least attractive travelling stage in the game. I'd prefer something like the Holy Tomb or Enbarr's throne room, or even the town outside the monastery which is the setting for quite a few important battles.

New Donk City is the ideal choice for Odyssey but feels kinda lifeless in Smash without the festival going on. I also think the Japanese Bowser's Castle or Steam Gardens could've been more interesting choices.

Great Plateau Tower is literally the most basic option you could do for BOTW. I would've rather had Hyrule Castle; it's not like they care about having thematic redundancy in the stages anyway and it's pretty distinct. There's also the Divine Beasts or shrines, though I don't find those particularly exciting. Barring that, BOTW's Zora's Domain is gorgeous and it'd be an excuse to remix the music.

Then there's Splatoon. They really gave us the MOST HATED Splatoon 1 stage and made its layout just 25m from Donkey Kong lol. I think just about anything would be better, but I'd like to suggest the Final Fest from Splatoon 2 or the Grand Festival stage from 3. The former is connected to Splatfests and Octo Expansion (peak Splatoon content imo) and the later is just a work of art really. And even sticking to the first game, I think Saltspray Rig would be pretty unique, Flounder Heights could preserve the verticality of Moray with (presumably) a much better layout, and even something as basic as Urchin Underpass would be better than... that lol.

It feels rude to say this, but... the new stages we got in base Ultimate just all felt really phoned in. Obligatory. So I'd like if those games got something more inspired (I guess if they swapped Great Plateau for something from TOTK that's fine too, as long as it doesn't suck)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this a fan favorite stage. . .in Japan?
:061:
Well, as someone who also liked it in the original game, the Smash version is, uh... not satisfactory lol. So I imagine any fans of it overseas are probably underwhelmed too :phoenixsweat:

So I was going to respond to this last week, but I wanted to do a big list, even if it would be limited to recent Nintendo Switch games to go along with your "finalized today" comment. But the forum destroyed my draft somehow and it got rid of the list as I was typing it up :phoenixsweat:

More than a week later I think that, while I would appreciate a bunch of specific locations (like Ferenia from Metroid Dread, or Fluff Puff Peaks from Mario Wonder, or Area Zero from Pokémon Gen 9), I think what I want more at this point are some unexplored stage setting concepts. Stuff that hasn't really been a Smash stage before. I'll post a small list.
  • An underwater location
  • A city that's experiencing rainy weather
  • An area next to a lake
  • A clock tower
  • A stage reminiscent of the Japanese countryside, and another stage reminiscent of American or European countrysides
  • A stage set inside some kind of office building, rather than on top of one or in front of one
  • A bit general, but I'd like a few more underground stages, as well as a few more stages based on snow or ice
This isn't everything, but as you can see I'd like some more stage variety, and some new ideas for stage settings in the next Smash.

Y'all think there's a chance we get an XCX stage?

Look i want Elma soooooooooooooooo bad and the port gives me. .. some small hope. But i wonder if XCX remake came into existence with good enough timing to get a chance

:061:

  • Yeah!
Reactions: KTG
Depending on the scope of the next game, even if we got Elma, I'm not we'd get a stage. Which is a shame, because Sylvalum is gorgeous. We love surreal alien worlds around here.

Sylvalum and Noctilum are my choices for alien landscapes from Xenoblade X. If we just get New Los Angeles that would be okay, too, but I'd prefer the former two.

Mira is so gorgeous that basically anywhere but Primordia could be an S tier stage.
NLA, Noctiulm, Sylvalum, Oblvium (i dont remember the names, sue me)

All gorgeous . .. AND great music to come with them??? Please
:061:

It was Oblivia. But also... I think a Primordia stage set in the rain with Skells flying around overhead and NLA in the background would actually be so peak...

Nooooooo not the opening grassland :kinzo:

:061:
I do sound like a hypocrite I know, but Primordia is cool enough to the stage I swear!!

So are there any characters that, since ultimate speculation, that you have totally turned around on, and want now?

If you were to ask me about Monster Hunter back then, i wouldn't have cared at all. Now . . .i think Monster Hunter may be my most and only wanted.* Pretty significant swing there.

*Among realizable characters

Since Ultimate speculation I played both Hotel Dusk and Last Window, as well as Another Code: Recollection. I went from being curious about Kyle Hyde and Ashley Robins to actively wanting them in the game, with Kyle being like my second most wanted character.
